Granit Xhaka Bids Adieu to Arsenal
Arsenal are cleaning out their closet in the hopes of making space for incoming midfielder, Declan Rice, and Granit Xhaka is the latest player to leave the Gunners.
Xhaka will be joining German side, Bayer Leverkusen, for a five-year €25 million deal.
The 30-year-old Switzerland midfielder bid farewell via Instagram on Thursday, 6 July, saying: “Gunners, it’s been some journey and all that’s left is for me to say thank you.”
“I’ve spent seven years at Arsenal. The club has become such an important part of my life and it’s not easy to leave. But now is the right time for a new adventure,” Xhaka said before he went on to thank the managers, teammates and fans who had contributed to his time at the English club.
“I will always carry Arsenal in my heart. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner,” he said as he proudly finished his statement.
The heartfelt goodbye closes a tumultuous chapter at the club, as Xhaka was stripped of his captaincy in 2019, after he reacted angrily to being booed by fans.
Arsenal already have their eyes on his replacement, as they hope to secure Rice in a club-record deal of £105 million deal in the upcoming days.
